Remove unnecessary applications

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Never assume the directory structures exist in your system as written in the document.  Never blindly follow security instructions -- read, review, compare, apply as it fits your system.

Take the following steps to remove unnecessary applications from a Windows server.

  1. Log into the server as the administrator.

  2. Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel.

  3. Click on Add or Remove Programs.

  4. Click on Add / Remove Window Components.

  5. Click on Components.

  6. Select Accessories and Utilities.

  7. Click on Details.

  8. Uncheck Games.

  9. Uncheck Multi-Media.

  10. Click OK.

  11. Click on Next, Next.

You may also want to review what is in Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs (the general listing).

Then review the installed programs.  Always follow the rule that if you are not sure what the program does, DO NOT remove it until you find out; that way, you don't break things that are working.
