Announcing the 2nd generation of Virtual Private Servers (VPS)
May 2003
Peter M. Abraham
We are
pleased to announce the next generation of Virtual Private Server
technology.
Inspired by the direct input of our customers, our second generation VPS
offers more power and flexibility, which extends a number of new
opportunities.
The 2nd
generation VPS is the closest thing to having a managed dedicated server.
The 2nd
generation VPS includes root access, multiple shell accounts, more robust
and secure sub hosting, and the ability to readily install thousands of
applications.
Additionally, the 2nd generation VPS supports enhanced “fair
share” technology, which protects the resources allocated to each VPS.
This
unique technology is the best defense in preventing any single VPS from
abusing resources and, ultimately, keeping your website and applications
performing consistently.
The 2nd
generation VPS also includes ample disk space, and free SSL.
The 2nd
generation VPS is based on standard FreeBSD UNIX, which means many of the
customizations that are unique to our other VPS plans are no longer
required.
What
this really means to you is the 2nd generation VPS fosters ease
of programming, application installation and configuration, and systems
integration.
For
example, with 2nd generation VPS you don’t have to worry about
the dual file system view of “virtual” and “non-virtual” modes that
complicate programming and application installation on the other VPS plans.
The 2nd
generation VPS is the closest thing to having your own dedicated server.
Look what you can do with the new VPS technology:
-
Root access for maximum control over users and applications
-
Configure multiple shell accounts
-
Host unlimited email accounts
-
Offer robust and secure sub hosting
-
Reboot, start, and stop your VPS
-
Access thousands of applications in the FreeBSD Ports Collection
-
Install and configure the applications of your choice
The 2nd
generation of Dynamic Net Virtual Private Servers can be seen at our Dynamic
Net web site. All new orders will be placed on the 2nd
generation technology (we are currently working on 2nd generation
technology for the Solaris VPS servers).
