Moving towards SMTP Authentication to reduce spam
By Peter M. Abraham
October 2004
On October 23, 2004 we set up our Parallels H-Sphere mail servers to work with the
current method of sending email through our servers -- POP before SMTP; and,
the new standard of sending email through mail servers -- SMTP Auth.
This move allows you to keep your current outgoing mail server
settings; but also allows you to change them over the next few months.
It is our goal to have everyone on SMTP Authentication by the end of
January 2005 for our shared hosting, Unix, customers.
Please note this move does not impact our VPS, co-located, or dedicated
server customers or those customers on our Windows hosting platform.
Please take a moment to find your email program below, and review the
settings that need to be changed.
Then start planning to make these changes on the personal computers you,
your employees, clients, etc. use to send email.
Please see the following article for more information on why we are
moving in this direction:
Preparing for the near future of email.
