New service offering -- secure FTP
By Peter M. Abraham
July 2003

If you are on any of our UNIX shared hosting plans, you can now use secure FTP (SFTP) to upload and download files securely.

You can use this new feature for no additional fee to your hosting plan.

Regular FTP programs send your user id and password via clear text from your machine to the host server.

It is possible for a hacker to get this information along the way.

Secure FTP and secure Email send the user id and password information in encrypted form.

Your FTP program must be capable of SSL communication over port 22.  FileZilla is such an FTP program.  Please note that programs that have check boxes for "SSL" such as WS-FTP will not work because the program does not allow you to configure the port to port 22.

Please contact our support department to activate this feature for your account.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions.
