DNI Service Update on Anti-SPAM Issues
By Peter M. Abraham
November 2003
The following is a time line of changes in how we, as a
company, are dealing with SPAM as it relates to the services you receive
from Dynamic Net, Inc.
April 25: We set up SPAM tagging so
that email messages suspected of being SPAM are tagged with
*****SPAM*****
in the subject line. Those emails can be easily
filtered to a quarantine / review area by following
these instructions.
July 11: We started using several well
respected
real time black hole list providers to prevent SPAM from those email
servers belonging to SPAM providers, are known SPAM senders, have a
compromised mail server or has a mail server that can be compromised.
October 6:
we set up several
real time black hole lists from
http://www.blackholes.us/ to block SPAM email from Brazil and Chinanet
(an ISP in China that is prevalent in allowing SPAM to be sent through their
services).
October 13:
we
added Korea and Hong Kong from
http://www.blackholes.us/. We also created our own real time black hole
list based on actual SPAM we receive at Dynamic Net, and as reported by
select customers using the procedures outlined on
http://www.dynamicnet.net/customer/spam/index.htm.
October 21:
we removed blocking email from Hong Kong on the request of two customers who
have business partners in Hong Kong.
November 3:
Due to concerns raised by two customers with overseas business partners
related to the blocking of valid email, we completely removed the use of the
blackholes.us (which was blocking email from Brazil, Korea, and the one ISP
Chinanet) and the use of our own RBL (which only blocked those where SPAM
was directly received by DNI partners, customers, and employees.
November 12
(today): We continue to employee the techniques we put into
place on April 25 and July 11th. We are trying to be more cautious and
careful about how we battle SPAM.
You, our
customers, make the difference. We, as a company, can only survive and
grow through the blessings of God, and through your continued loyalty to our
company.
We value your
input, and need your continued input on how we are doing as a company -- be
it fighting SPAM, keeping the system secure, or how we answer the phone when
you call.
Please feel free
to contact us with questions.
Thank you. |
