Prior to changing that email address
By Peter M. Abraham

Prior to changing your email address, you should make a list of people to notify that includes your hosting provider and your domain name registrar.

In the past thirty days alone, we've had three major gut wrenching, heart aching, teary eyed problems that could have been prevented.

One customer had their domain in redemption (at least a $150 fee -- not our doing!) and whose site was completely down because of it.

Another customer totally lost their domain name, and had another suspended (though in the grace period).

Over the past eight years in business, we've seen a growing number of customers lose their domain name because they changed the email address they used with their domain name registrar without notifying the registrar.

We could not get a hold of the one customer easily because they didn't notify us either about an email address change.

What happened?

They changed their email address and didn't notify the company they used to register their domain name, or their hosting provider (Dynamic Net).

See the 2002 article about You wake up, and your domain name is gone!

It is crucial we know of email address changes and mailing address changes.  If you did not register your domain name through us, it is crucial you notify the company you registered your domain name about any email address changes.

Please let us know if you have any questions.
